At a place that feeds the birds/with lavish generosity/ the birds swoop, soar/ flutter/ even hummingbirds zig and dive/what a blessed flock of diverse broods/what a casual but intentional largess

Perhaps the thing to do/is to accept every day/every circumstance as the possibility of deep thanksgiving/to live joy to the world/out of season/not wait for the story to end/never ending joy/is ours already/if we kindly serve God and neighbor/don’t put joy away until next year

Open air/big sky/after the downpour/every living thing all/survivors/bristle with juice/the joy/I made it/ see me living/ I made it through the storm/I made it from sorrow to this place/and I think I’m gonna name it joy

Think of all the fierce and the good/in all the steepled walls/that pushed beyond their limits/who stood ground and proclaimed kindness bold to anoint/even in the face of death/the gift of hospitality/for all in need/for we are neighbors/wherever we stand
