It occurs to me that in the midst of our confusion

with so many reasons to despair

we seldom understand the

breaking in of God’s presence

always

arrives

in the birthing of a child

always

born an unlikely voice

from the undercard

of life’s champion fight

and that voice

yours or mine

even

always

says something brave

feet

yours or mine

stand the ground of love

refuse to be vanquished

always

that unlikely child

grows up

again and again

to bring the weary world

comfort

and

joy
