at the start
is not spending our lives with people
just like us
from where we are at exclusively
open the door
then the next level
is learn to love some people
who are different from you
then the next step
is go with them into their world for a season
on their terms just be loved
then the next journey

predicated mine
upon that breast
I was weaned
to kindness
giving of self to the point
of exhaustion
and raw courage
some of this richness
almost spoils me so
I temper
like chocolate in a double
boiler
the simmering heat of
life release the flaws
of excess
in a controlled
burn
and (like her)
I serve a table
set to delight
rich
with love
