Horrid hard times

may come into our lives

to release false obligations

we cling to

never learning to say no sweetly

without guilt or even regret

to remind us of the real coordinates

our true obligations

which are pure

and easily delightful

so I geiger counter

everything that I am

looking for the radioactivity

of false attachment

that is really invisibility cloaked terror and fear

I follow the clicks

and remind myself to believe

my own utter truth

this: that I may wind up

ready to

shed tears along with whole

lives

now we are harkening to angelic choruses

sweetly sighing

God only ever wants us to

be obliged

to really

truly

Love

The Beginning of Fear

I have wondered/ where visceral fear is engendered/ what starts it sprouting/ lurking as a baseline/ like breath we just breathe/ and suddenly we may notice/ each breath/ fear is like that/ ubiquitous/ suddenly breaking the surface/ but I have wondered/ where it was learned so utterly/ perhaps the efforts of big people/ to get little people/ under control/ in line/ like smart little soldiers/…

I have wondered/

where visceral fear is engendered/

what starts it sprouting/

lurking as a baseline/

like breath we just breathe/

and suddenly we may notice/

each breath/

fear is like that/

ubiquitous/

suddenly breaking the surface/

but I have wondered/

where it was learned so utterly/

perhaps the efforts of big people/

to get little people/

under control/

in line/

like smart little soldiers/

perhaps/

it started there in the land of /

giants/

among those who summoned us here/

for the sole purpose/

to be loved/

Full Moon

It is said that there/
will be a full moon for Christmas/
That it has been over 40 years since the /
last time/
and wont be seen again/
for almost two decades/
forty years ago I was a teenager/
looking up/
on an urban moonscape/
seventeen years hence/
I will have met and exceeded/
my three score and ten/
and I know/
even then I will lift my eyes to the/
sky/
and wonder

The third Sunday of Advent/

allows us to see a glimmer of light on the way/

of reflection in the noisome crowded external/

do everything for everyone/

secretly want the big gaping hole inside/

finally filled/

under construction we pause draped in purple/

and listen to the launch of a burble of pink/

pink sandy beaches/

the pink of sunrise/

and sunset/

the pink filled with God breaking into/

the stubborn world/

the weary inner world/

one more/

time/

The Light of Friendship

IMG_20151123_080841148_HDR

We have arrived/

at that certain age/

when certain friendships harbor all/

the sorrow/

shared undiluted/

the flawed and silly humor/

lightens hearts/

the distant dreams/

distilled and woven into stronger/

threads of hope/

the bond of friendship/

like deep bodied wine/

improves with age
